Villa Castaño after sunset, Estepona

The house, from morning to night.

Villa Castaño sits on the hills above Estepona, three years old, and built for a specific kind of week. Not for constant activity. Not for anonymous stopovers. For eight guests who came for the pace of the place, and want the house to keep up without asking. Mornings are quiet. The first person up finds their way to the kitchen without seeing anyone else, because the four suites sit far enough apart that footsteps don’t carry. Coffee moves outside. The sea is already there, and if the weather is right, it stays there through breakfast. Nobody has to wait for the shower. Nobody borrows a towel.
By late morning the house has spread out. Some of you are at the pool, which sits low on the terrace so the water catches the sun until early afternoon. Some of you are still reading in the shade. Someone is on a call in the corner of the sitting room, because the house is large enough to absorb a call without derailing anyone else’s morning. Afternoons run themselves. A drive to the coast, an hour at Playa del Cristo, a slow lunch in the old town. Or none of that. The pool is heated well into November, and the terrace catches enough breeze that lying still is a full activity. Evenings settle over the kitchen island and a table for eight, quiet by ten in a residential street where a rare rainy day just moves dinner under cover.

Jaleesa says
“Drive down to Playa del Cristo before ten. It’s the only beach nearby that stays sheltered from the wind, so it’s calm even when the coast isn’t, and you’ll have most of it to yourselves before the town wakes up.”
