Website

Two breakwaters close off this stretch of coast, so the water barely moves. Shallow, calm and warmer than the open sea, it’s the beach we send families with young children to first.

The experience

Playa del Cristo sits west of Estepona’s marina, shaped like a shallow half circle that traps the sea behind two breakwaters. The water stays flat even on windy days, and it deepens gradually, so younger children can wade out without a sudden drop underfoot.

Two beach bars sit right on the sand. Havana Beach and Chiringuito Lolailo both serve grilled fish and cold drinks through the day, with live music and DJs picking up on weekends if you stay past sunset. Sunbeds and umbrellas are available to rent if you’d rather not carry your own.

Beyond swimming, the calm water suits pedalos and paddleboards, both available for rent along the beach, an easy way to fill an hour without committing to a full watersports session.

Not for everyone

If you came for waves, surf or a proper swim workout, this isn’t your beach. The whole point of Playa del Cristo is that the sea stays still, which makes it the wrong choice if you want current or swell.

Good to know

  • Showers, sunbeds and umbrella rental on site
  • Parking nearby, though the summer car park fills up and gets chaotic by midday
  • Lifeguard station staffed through the summer months
  • Pedalo and paddleboard rental available on the beach

Free to visit. Sunbeds, umbrellas, watersport rental and food are paid extras, prices set by each chiringuito.

While you’re here

Part of the wider Estepona coastline, a short drive from the villa. If you have children with you for a full day, Selwo Aventura makes a good pairing the next morning.

In short

Villa Castaño sits above Estepona, on the Costa del Sol, twenty minutes from championship golf courses including Valle Romano and El Paraíso. Málaga Airport (AGP) is the nearest, roughly 55 minutes by car. Every stay here is booked direct, with no platform fee added to the rate.
Word from the writer

"To help you get more out of Estepona, whether you're still planning your trip or already here. If you're staying at the villa and something comes up, just get in touch."
